Yacht Action Sailing is the leading independent yacht sailing school in the Isle of Man. Founded in 2007 our aim is bring the fun and excitement of yacht sailing and powerboating to people both here in the picturesque Isle of Man and all round the Irish Sea coast.
Yacht Action's Principal is Robin Wootton, a fully qualified RYA/MCA Ocean Yachtmaster Instructor who started sailing at the tender age of three and has now been sailing for over 44 years.
Our Chief Powerboat Instructor is James Walker, himself a Yachtmaster, James brings a wealth of talent and ability that belies his years.
Our school yacht is called Cheetah Cub and is based in the port of Douglas . Cheetah is a Christian Stimson designed Reflex 38. A very versatile racer/cruiser, she is just at home cruising along steadily at 4 knots with beginners aboard as she is flying along at over 20 knots in full racing trim. She is fully coded to MCA Cat II and complies with ISAF Offshore Safety regulations Cat 2 for Offshore racing.
In her lifetime she has covered over 30,000 sea miles visiting places as diverse as Portugal , Spain , France , Morrocco as well as the beautiful Isle of Man and Irish Sea areas. A veteran of the two handed Shetland Round Britain and Ireland race (3 rd place), the BMW Two handed Round Ireland race (5 th place) and the famous Fastnet race she performs well in all guises and is a very safe boat – having an angle of vanishing stability of 143 ° for those that are interested. A very sea worthy boat she has been out in the Atlantic dealing with over 50 knots of wind and massive seas in usual unalarming manner.
Cheetah sleeps 6 in comfort but can take up to 10 when in “full race mode”.
She has hot and cold running water and a brand new 2 burner stove to keep you fed and watered. Being a quick boat you will generally find that you cover more miles doing RYA courses than most other schools, which can only add further to the Yacht Action Sailing experience.
